English for Professional International Communication in the Arts
EPICA for Teachers/Schools
Classroom Materials
EPICA Kids is a suite of classroom-ready teaching materials - available as lessons, short projects or extended curricula - that introduce graded English materials on music and art topics in stimulating and engaging ways. This package includes classroom-ready video clips, worksheets and lesson plans, complete with homework tasks and project ideas. The EPICA Kids editions are entertaining video-based courses which children can easily understand, complete with paper-based and/or electronic materials that should be used to accompany the videos. To use the EPICA Kids at home classes, an adult should ensure that the course is set up so that the activities can be done, but after the initial set-up, the program should run easily as an activity-based video. Each course comes with a set-up video which is easy to follow – even for parents who don’t speak English!
The first two programs are music-focused - EPICA Kids: Classical Music, and EPICA Kids: Popular Music - and they will be ready for launch in September 2022. We are looking for partners to help us launch this exciting new curriculum and work with us to develop new ideas for future.
We are also very happy to receive ideas about curricular areas that we can service, so please get in touch and join the conversation.
Preparation for Higher Study
At EPICA, we are well aware of the needs of younger English learners who are developing their creative identities in the arts. In order to prepare for international study, students must focus on meeting the entry requirements of the institution, usually an IELTS, TOEFL or Pearson test, but on arrival at the institution, these students then often find that they struggle with the subject specific vocabulary and the linguistic demands of the subject.
To support this need, we have designed the English for Studying Music series, which supports students for transition to university (at Bachelor’s and Master’s level in Classical or Popular Music). These are short courses, supported by an international social media community of peers and mentors, that are intended as a supplement to the test preparation mentioned above.
For those who are interested in gaining a more immersive experience in university-level music study, we also have courses in English for Popular Music Theory, English for Popular Music History, English for Popular Music Analysis, and English for Popular Music Research, as well as our suite of Songwriting courses.

English for Music, the flagship series from EPICA, focuses on the specific needs of musicians aspiring to an international profile or English language education in music.
English for Studying Music is a set of targeted EAP (English for Academic Purposes) courses, which introduces some of the key concepts which are central to music study at different levels, from high/secondary school to postgraduate level. English for Popular Music Analysis, English for Popular Music Research, English for Music Theory and English for Popular Music History present a range of university lectures, as delivered across Europe, America and Asia, re-purposed to focus on the vocabulary, language content and academic expectations at university level.
Songwriting in English is designed to help songwriters explore how to develop an English language repertoire through a range of practical workshops. It is based on university level courses, and introduces a range of techniques and approaches, especially selected to support English learners to express original ideas in their own musical styles. The EPICA - Superior editions of these courses are highly recommended, where the course is delivered in real-time as an online workshop.
English for Professional Musicianship explores how to speak to your audience and the press/media, as well as the vocabulary and language use on stage, in the recording studio, in auditions/interviews, and in music rehearsal across a range of styles (pop/rock, jazz and classical).
